Spotlight on… Irene Poku!

For this month’s blog, we thought we would take the opportunity to introduce you to Irene Poku. Irene is the newest associate to join our Mastering Mindsets team!

Irene joins us with an impressive background in Executive and Leadership coaching. She has significant experience coaching at the level of Director, Senior managers and leaders. This includes heads of departments and VPs, as well as CEOs and business owners.

Irene combines her learning from over 20 years in the Pharmaceutical Industry, with her people development experience, her facilitation and her coaching. She works with organisations, groups and individuals to encourage clients to see beyond their existing views and enable them to embrace cognitive diversity and new possibilities.

As part of the process of bringing Irene into the Mastering Mindsets family, we decided to delve a little deeper into what makes her tick – so here’s our “Spotlight on” Irene Poku!

Welcome, Irene Poku!

How did your career path lead you to this field?

For 20 years, I worked hard to build a career that would give me fulfilment.  I was very content with my life and proud of my personal and professional achievements. However, my life would change in 2017 when my husband passed away after a short battle with cancer, leaving me in a very dark place.

I knew I had to start to rebuild my life and, with the help of a coach, and so I embarked on a new journey of soul-searching, to identify my core values. With this heightened awareness, I made a decision to design a life aligned to my core values.

So, I quit my job and walked away from the career and expertise I had acquired over the years. I decided to train as a coach and obtain all the necessary certifications to enable me to practise at the executive level.

Heightened self-awareness has brought immense benefit to my life. As a result, I’ve committed myself to helping others cultivate the same awareness – empowering them to lead more fulfilling lives.

Tell us one piece of advice you give clients most often?

As an Authentic Leadership Coach, I work with most clients on identifying their core values, empowering beliefs, and strengths.

Once we’ve done this work, I always invite them to reflect and gather real-life stories that demonstrate how they are living in alignment with those values and strengths.

What trends are you seeing in leadership or executive development right now?

Senior leaders working on increasing their visibility, building their personal brand and leading from a place of strength and being inclusive.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

I love music and I am a very good dancer – I still go clubbing!
