How Self-Change and Transformation is a bit like laying a New Floor

Ella Jaczynska

Life’s reminders can occur in the strangest places.

I am currently in the midst of having my living room floors replaced with wood boards, and I was reflecting on all that is going on and the stages we are going through (physically and emotionally).

It made me realise how similar a renovation project is to the process of working on self-change and transformation.

Here’s where I see the similarities:

1. You have to be clear about what the desired end result is.
2. You then can consider your options for progressing and the pros, cons and impact of each.
3. You have to prepare:
– clear away things that will get in the way of the change happening
– decide if there are things you want to keep and things you may want to get rid of
4. You have to determine the best timing.
5. You consider what help you need for the self-change to happen.
6. It is messy and disruptive, changing what you are used to. It feels uncomfortable and unsettling as you go through it, but keeping the end result in mind helps you get through it.
7. You look at what you have that you want to change slightly and re-purpose (for my living room example, it is having a large off cut of the fitted carpet and putting edging on it to make it into a large rug).
8. And when you can see and feel the result (and others comment on it, too), you know the journey to self-change and transformation was worth it, and you don’t want to go back.

We so often put change of due to fears and worries, but it is always less awful than we feared; and often quite refreshing.

That’s why I love what we do with our Coaching and People Development at Mastering Mindsets…because Mindset Changes Everything!
