Ever considered the power of an End of Year Success Audit?

Ella Jaczynska

Many of us craft New Year’s resolutions at the start of every year in the hope that we can focus on changing and improving things for success in the next year.

This approach isn’t without merit. However, instead of just focusing on what can be improved, it is important we balance this with reflecting on and celebrating what went well over the year just gone.

Why an End of Year Success Audit is Important

We very rarely take time out to consider what has actually gone well for us, however big or small. But taking the time to carry out what we call an ‘End of Year Success Audit’ has many advantages:

  1. It reminds you of all you have actually achieved and that releases positive hormones to help uplift and motivate you further.
  2. It anchors in your memory what you did to achieve those successes, which increases the likelihood you will be able to tap into those actions again, should they be needed in the future.
  3. It enables you to determine if your New Year’s resolutions and objectives for the past year were actually realistic and feasible or not; or even if you could have stretched yourself further!
  4. It then enables you to be balanced about what are realistic new targets and New Year’s resolutions for the next year.

The Principles

We often do an exercise with clients to help them identify their Principles for Success, which are behaviours they put into play each time something was successful.

Make a list of at least 10 things you were successful in over the last 6 or 12 months, and reflect on what you did that made it successful. You will find a few common themes that come up for each of the items; these are your Success Principles.  We each have our unique list, and by reflecting on and becoming aware of them, you can then make these success principles work for you in future.

I love ending the year with a Success Audit. We all have more successes than we realise, and it is a wonderful way to close out the year feeling positive, motivated and grateful.

Go ahead, try it out and see the impact it has for you.

I would love to hear if you have ended up doing an End of Year Success Audit and the impact it had for you.
